Laura Sweet, Assent Compliance’s Vice-President, Marketing, has been named a recipient of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and Ottawa Business Journal’s (OBJ) Forty Under 40 awards, as part of what the OBJ has called a “historic female cohort” of 22 female recipients.

The annual awards recognize the city’s best and brightest young business leaders, who will be formally presented with their awards at a gala event in June.

“I’m honored to stand beside such an outstanding group of Ottawa business leaders as one of this year’s Forty Under 40 award recipients,” Laura said. “I’m especially humbled to be a part of this impressive group of female leaders.”

More than 290 applications were submitted for the 40 spots on the prestigious list, according to the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s fantastic to see the recipients hailing from different industries and backgrounds,” Ottawa Chamber President and CEO Ian Faris said in a press release. “These young business leaders demonstrate the enormous amount of talent we have in this city. Their pioneering nature and visionary thinking will generate economic benefits in the years ahead as Ottawa is fast becoming the center of talent attraction and innovation.”

Laura joined Assent Compliance in July 2015 and quickly climbed the ranks from Senior Manager, Content Marketing, to Vice President, Marketing. She has been responsible for leading and growing the marketing team at Assent. As an early member of the marketing department, she was instrumental in the creation of organizational structures, and provided leadership and vision over strategic development.

The Forty Under 40 award recipients are chosen based on professional accomplishments and community involvement. Laura is the executive co-sponsor of Assent’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, the communications lead of the Social Responsibility Alliance and a volunteer with the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.

“Laura’s hard work, grit and leadership have been paramount in growing our marketing department at Assent, and this recognition for her professional achievements and community involvement is well deserved,” said Assent’s CEO, Andrew Waitman. “She is an amazing example of the tremendous amount of talent and and leadership this company has.”

Assent Compliance co-founders Jonathan Hughes and Matt Whitteker are both former recipients of the award.
