Back in May, the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) released versions 6.0 and 6.01 of the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT). Did you know these updates can help you keep pace with upcoming EU requirements?

The CMRT is the globally accepted standard for performing conflict minerals due diligence in the supply chain. It is typically used to meet the requirements of Section 1502 of the U.S. Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, but recent changes to the template help companies keep pace with growing stakeholder expectations around ethical minerals sourcing.

Overview of CMRT 6.0 & 6.01 Update

On May 13, the RMI released CMRT 6.0, with an update to 6.01 on May 19 to account for bug fixes. The updates signal another step toward a streamlined approach to responsible minerals that extends into more high-risk regions and industries. The intent is that these templates can be used for the upcoming conflict minerals reporting year, with reporting due in May 2021. The updates include:

  • Bug and error corrections.
  • Updates to country, state, and province lists.
  • Alignment with updates to IPC-1755 to support EU conflict minerals requirements.
  • Updates to the Smelter Reference List and Standard Smelter List.

This will allow companies to manage new data fields for compliance with the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation, which means the CMRT is still your first resource for acquiring data.

Meet conflict minerals requirements in the U.S. and EU with Assent’s Responsible Minerals — Conflict Minerals solution.

Assent’s Responsible Minerals Solutions

If you’re shipping products into the EU, compliance with U.S. sourcing requirements isn’t enough to meet the scrutiny of enforcement bodies, your customers, and the world’s most influential investors. Even if your company isn’t directly in scope, you may wish to voluntarily report on the conflict-affected and high-risk regions identified in the EU legislation in order to mitigate reputational risk.

Assent’s responsible minerals solution leverages the CMRT to help companies acquire the additional data they need to comply before the January 1, 2021, EU Conflict Minerals Regulation deadline. It allows you to:

  • Automate and validate CMRT data acquisition.
  • Collect the information you need to support submission to the EU Due Diligence Portal.
  • Report on sourcing from conflict-affected and high-risk regions (CAHRAs) beyond the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
  • Meet the scrutiny of any member state.

Whether you’re expanding into new markets or maintaining existing ones, you need to keep pace with evolving responsible minerals expectations to build and nurture your stakeholder relationships.
