The Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) has released Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) 5.12, the latest version of the organization’s industry-standard template for conflict mineral reporting.
Companies all over the world use the CMRT to collect conflict mineral sourcing data from their supply chain, leveraging the information gathered to comply with global conflict mineral laws and make ethical sourcing decisions that inform their responsible minerals programs.
According to the RMI, this version update includes:
- Bug and error corrections
- Updates to the ISO country, state and province lists
- Enhancements to the template (which do not conflict with IPC-1755)
- Updates to the Smelter Reference List and Standard Smelter List

Conflict minerals — tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold (3TGs) — are often sourced from conflict-affected zones such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo. While many companies source the minerals using ethical practices, some can directly or indirectly contribute to conflict, violence and human rights abuses in these regions through their procurement of 3TGs.
Laws such as Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and, more recently, the European Union Conflict Minerals Regulation, aim to reduce human rights violations by asking companies to report on their ethical sourcing due diligence efforts concerning conflict minerals.
